The 6AL is an ignition box that controls the spark for your engine. The box will improve spark energy and consistancy and will improve the overall performance of your car. It won't give you HP or TQ like some other bolt-ons would but it is ESSENTIAL for a well running/performing car.

I have the box and swear by MSD products. My entire ignition system is composed of MSD and I would recommend it to anyone.

the ones most commonly used on street cars are the 6 series, usually the 6AL is what people want

Stock street car: MSD5
Modified street car: MSD6A or 6AL if you want an adjustable rev limiter.

And then just get whatever blaster coil matches your application (normal, HEI, Ford, etc).
They also have custom wire harness adaptors so you don't have to cut any wires, it all just plugs together.

What does the adjustable rev limiter do for your car in the MSD 6AL?? [Confused]
Thanks,
G.C.

It lets you adjust... your rev limiter...

In other words it can let you either raise your rev limiter to a higher-than-stock point (assuming you remove the stock rev limiter from the PCM first) or it can let you lower the rev limiter, all by removing spark from the engine *much much safer than removing fuel*

what is considered "modified" concerning msd application?

I reccomend the 6al I used to run the 6 series with my lightly modified stang. The only thing that I say to stay away from is the blaster 2 coils there have been recals and infact I blew two of them up from overheating them. Also it is a much safer ignition system the stock for computer rev limiter pulls the fuel so your still getting spark with no fuel. The msd pulls the spark so when you hit the limiter all your car does is dump in fuel which is way safer. hope this helps

These systems also work quite well in forced induction applications where often times you can get spark blow-out from the incomming combustion mixture.

The MSD will help gap the bridge on the sparkplug which will give you a nice even and more power combustion of the air/fuel.

I used to use it when i ran a 100 N20 w/ 2 degrees of retard. When i would hit the upper rpm range the car would stutter and the power became flat buit after the MSD it was much smoother through out the entire WOT passes.

EDIT: The limiter is also very good to keep the motor alive especially if you powershift incorrectly.
