Howdy Folks, Ive got my project 86 gt runnin,Ive got new injectors, pump, presure reg, plugs cap rotor and puttin on new high flow cats this week and am gonna smog it--Im a little worried ablut smog and have a couple of questions-

I think Im carboned up in the heads and my compression seems a little low, is there any way to clean up my combustion chambers before puttin on the cats?

how far should I run the new cats before taking them to smog? any advice would sure be appreciated

Make sure to run your car at freeway speed before taking it in for smog , the cats need to be hot. Good luck

I've always stuck the vacuum line from my brake booster in a can of carb cleaner while the car was running to clean out the cumbustion chamber a little.... [Big Grin]

I wouldn't really recommend doing it with the new cats on, but it works well...

You might want to think about new O2's depending on how old the ones you have on there are....

Make sure the car is really warm (slightly above normal operating temp). You may also want to change the oil.

If you think you may not pass have the smog place run a pre-test before running the real test. This way if it fails the results will not be sent to the DMV.

Carbon build up in the combustion chamber will cause compression to go up.

hmmm---your right, duh. but would cause incomplete combustion which means more Hydrocarbons?

Good advice. Also check your spark plug gap and flog your car to warm up your cats before the test.
