Just wondering how much compression is too much to put a turbo on a engine. The engine i have is around 10.5:1. I know thats too high for a supercharger, but what about a turbo. Just wondering/thinking about some options.

10.5 is too high for a super/turbocharger. 9.5 is about as high as you'd want to go. 8.5 would be more desireable.

I doubt you'd be able to run 3 PSI on pump gas.
5-6 PSI might be ok with some 100 octane mixed in.

my old car had 10.2:1 compression and people ran turbos on them all the time, on pump gas. Needs an intercooler though, I think. And I dont think anyone went over 9-10psi unless they got race gas, which they then could go to 18psi on. Im not sure this applies to your car, but I'd research it further, as maybe you have a chance.

We ran about five pounds on a 10 3/4 motor at Apex. It was tuned very carefully after the blower went on as you could imagine. Runs with 100 octane fuel only.

and to think that I was going to run 10.0:1 compression with 10 psi of boost on a 347 with vic.jr heads.
I was in search of 500 rwhp.
But I went with a DOHC instead.

LS1 motors, LT1 motors, and the pre 03 Cobra motors seem to do OK with boost even though they have moderately high compression. I guess as long as quality fuel is used and it has a good tune it will tolerate boost well.

Aluminum heads will allow you to get away with a little more boost/timing.
