I'm sure lots of us had the notorious "Check Engine" light come on whenever you stepped on the gas and it goes off when you release, right? It drives us Mad. I removed the air tubelet which runs to the Throttle Body (TB). Under it; is the Throttle Valve cable which is attatched to the TB. There's a lengthy spring coiled around it. That's the one! There's a small locking pin that locks it down. Pry it out carefully not to drop it or it'll get lost around the engine. Once the cable is freed, push the WHITE locking tab from under it until it sticks out. The Throttle link should slide freely back and forth. I forget which way to move it because once I slid it too far back or too far forward, (as I test drove it after putting everything back together) the shift points shifted early. It went into 2nd to 3rd gear then 4th going 10-15-20 MPH! So I adjusted it back again and now the shift point felt better, stronger. It peaked longer in 2nd gear making the RPM's higher than before. I never noticed the Check Engine" light was off 'til a few days ago. Try it out and see if it works for you. If it all sounds confusing, buy or read the Haynes Auto Manual for '79 thru '93 Mustangs and look at page 7b-3 and it will show you in better detail. And if it works let me know! [Big Grin]

you know what's horrible, I have too. [Roll Eyes] I about died when I saw it.

I even had a guy tell me to tape mine over on the cobra when I had my check engine light for a couple days...."hell, it fixed mine dude" [BS flag]

Some people....jesus, their "thought process" (if you will even give them that) just really horrifies me.

ever scan your codes? possibly your TPS was out of range (you mess with your TPS if you mess with the throttle cable pre-load)

My buddy put a huge bbk sticker on his cluster to cover up the check engine light. Also he had a picture of a his girlfriend to cover up the abs light that stayed on.

I was under the impression that an indicator light was installed in order to give you an "indication" there is something a-miss with the vehicle.

Personally I haven't had my check engine light come on unless there was something the matter with the car.

Now mabye it's just me, but fox chassis mustangs don't have codes for t.v. adjustment. So how did this work??? [Confused]

Uhhhh....I got to go to the garage real quick [Eek!] . J/K. I actually thought of that once. The flashing "Check Engine" light was really pissing me off but I ran codes and changed out the EGR Position Valve. Problem corrected. [patriot] [Whoo Whooooo!]

BTW...this seems like one of Foxworthy's "You might be a redneck" jokes.

that's what I was thinking. I've also read that you can do serious and immediate damage to your AOD if you don't have the TV cable right. you're supposed to measure the pressure on the TV port on the tranny to prevent it from becoming a really heavy paperweight.

Remember, this works for AUTOMATIC Transission. Since then, no moe light "pop-ups" anymore.
