if i remember right the x cam is ground 4* advance, so when u retard it 4* it is actually being installed straight up
or it could be the other way around, but the x cam isnt ground straight up from ford

Straight up is when the ICL (intake centerline), ECL (exhaust centerline) and LSA (lobe separation angle) all line up. Hence the term straight up. So a 112 ICL and 112 ECL will = a 112 LSA. Advance it 2 degrees you get 110 ICL, 114 ECL and 112 LSA. Retard it 2 and you get 114 ICL, 110 ECL and 112 LSA. Oh, the X cam comes with 5 degrees advance built in. So on an accurate chain set on the 0 mark, the ICL would be 107, the ECL is 117, and the LSA is 112.
