So i decided to upgrade the rear suspension on my 65 and bought some 5-leafs [patriot] . My problem: how the fuck do i get the bolt out of the eye?! I swear it's fuckin frozen to the bushing to something. Is there a trick or am I gonna have to cut that bitch?

I tried hitting it with the hammer, with the nut partially on to get a better hitting surface- nothing.

The nut comes off, and the bolt turns, but the bolt doesn't slide out - at all!

So what the fuck?! [Mad]

I assume the weight is off the spring right? Got a long drift to stick inside the spring to punch it through? Do you have an impact gun? Thats old shit your working on, everythings frozen and a bitch. Don't cut it because it'll still be stuck without the damn head. Soak it in WD. Let me know if you have air tools

a long what?

Lets see, the weight is off the springs, haven't tried wd-40 yet, I have an impact gun and an air wrench and compressor yes. It's hard to get the impact into place though and I don't have a universal socket for it. [Frown]

Maybe I should buy one... [Roll Eyes]

Try using some Liquid Penetrant or Gear Oil between the Bolt Head and Surface. You mentioned that the bolt won't turn outwards? Perhaps there is some sort of pressure on the bolts that won't allow it to turn out? I don't know 65-suspension that well though [Embarrassed] . Perhaps putting some inward pressure on the opposite side of the bolt may coherce it out. If the bolt turns, I wouldn't see the need for impact tools, try using a BFH or longer breaker bars.

Long shot - Maybe the threads are dirty? Hit it up with some break cleaner around the edges and put some gear oil in there afterwards with some outward pressure.

if its any consolation...the first time i changed leaf springs in my car the nut had rusted to the bolt which forced me to have to grind that shit off.

When we were taking the leaf springs off of my friend's '67 they were so stuck the only way to get them off was to to torch the giant bushing around the bolt, and basically cut the springs off since we put new ones on anyways.

Buah aha aa sucker.

I knew that would happen.

If it's any consilation both of my cars have been so mint that the bolt has come off no problem.

Heat the fucker. Eventually after much effort it will loosen.

when i changed mine i just put pliers on it and twisted it and just put a pin on the other side and tried hammering it and twisting it. also make sure you have sumthing holding the spring up because it ways a lot and will bind the bolt good luck
