Are you getting the correct amount of fuel?...
Posted by wilit (Member # 3367) on

Well, this is on a '91 GT right? Ford has built into the computer a little trick. When you have the gas pedal floored, and you start the car, the computer goes into "flood" mode, and doesn't fire the injectors because it thinks the engine is flooded. So, going by that, I'd have to wonder if maybe the problem isn't spark related but fuel related.

Distributor dropped in right? Timing set to 10?

the funny thing is that it is the second time i hda it towed in 3 days. on thursday went tothe bank came out less then 5 min. it would crank but nwont start. so here comes tow truck. got home thought it was to distributor. got the MSD check for spark from coil wire, constant sprak. then check spark from #5 cap plug wireand got a little weak spark. distributor rotor point at firewall #1 TDC. even took spark plug out and check. the piston is at tdc. finally it started. fuel???? on my friends mustang when u turn the key on, u can hear the injector squirting fuel like a buzz sound. on my car it was a short buzz. this morning it started up fine. drove for 10 min. came home shutit off. waiting 4 3 min. and it starts. i cant even drive the car no where.help???????

I'd assume your not getting any check engine codes? Have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it yet? Seems strange. I wonder if the distribor is having trouble sending a PIP signal to the ECM. Is there an aftermarket ignition on the car?

:
fuel consist of 255 in tank. t-rex in line . 38 lb. inj. from ANDERSON MTRsports. switch computer from my friends car but still wont start. is the computer not sending signal to the injector when the key is on ??? i'm lost bro.
Posted by STrim209StaNg (Member # 4220) on
:
yes a autometer fuel pressure mechanical. mounted outside. only a MSD coil.no device to check for code.
Posted by STrim209StaNg (Member # 4220) on
:
right now it has MSD distibutor and coil. thinking of puttin the stock one back on. the stock one has a ford dealer tfi module.

Do you have a matching mass air meter for those 38#ers?
Posted by STrim209StaNg (Member # 4220) on
:
pro-m 80mm and 38 lb inj. i put the vortech kit and every else on last july. any ideas.
Posted by mtbaughs (Member # 4052) on
:
Is the pro m calibrated for 38# injectors? If so try pulling the chip unless its calibrated for 38#'s as well
Posted by STrim209StaNg (Member # 4220) on
:
it came with the calibration kit from ANDERSON motorsports. car runs fine just this past 4 weeks has been pain in the ying yang.

a viper paging alarm couple ago. but went to the alarm place so they can disable it and try to but start still wont start. but this morning it started fine .
Posted by STrim209StaNg (Member # 4220) on
:
nope. stock
Posted by mtbaughs (Member # 4052) on
:
That would be my guess as to whats wrong than. Too many times have I seen morons at an alarm shop tap into stuff they should not for the alarm. Just because it's disabled doesn't mean its not causing a problem still. Was it right after the alarm went in?

Posted by STrim209StaNg (Member # 4220) on

the wierd thing is this morning I started the car and warm it up for couple minute then took for a short cruise. it ran fine. got home shut her off. waited for a short time and try to start her up and it started fine. so decided to change the plugs to autolite 3923 gap @ .o35. all the plugs has little tiny white dots on them except #1 plug. it was black like it was running rich. all other was white/brownish tip on porcelian. after the plug changed took her for another short run then came home , shut it off then started it up and it was fine. BY the way have put a high torque small starter in it about 2 months ago.

Do a compression check on that hole. You might not have any compression in it and thats why the spark plug shows its fat.
Posted by mtbaughs (Member # 4052) on
:
The other issue might be that the injector on that hole is stuck open or not functioning properly
Posted by STrim209StaNg (Member # 4220) on
:
are the injector functioning right. first i check the plugs in 4-5 months. ???????? whenever yo crank to start the car should there be fuel squirting into the chambers. ????? and how come my plugs aren't fouled up when i crank the engine at least over 20 times on sunday???????bad signal to injector???????

:
Could be a bad signal to that injector. Could be a bad injector, could be no compresson in that hole. All these things can't be known without tests run on them.
Posted by STrim209StaNg (Member # 4220) on
:
what would be the cause of the bad signal??? what kind of a test run???? the car runs fine today from the house and back . kinda worried if i drive to work and it wont started and have to towed it home ???????
Posted by mtbaughs (Member # 4052) on
:
Take your car to an auto electric shop so they can trace all the leads in the car. Do the compression check on that cylinder. That might tell ya right off. You can also get the injectors flow checked at a shop that does it to confirm their all functioning properly

tired of messing w/ it now. i might take it to BIG VALLEY FORD to have them take a look at it. call them today to ask how much for a diagnostic. they say about $95/hr. it's my last resort unless someone out there can help me out to see what's really wrong with my car. bby the way i took out the MSD distributor and put the stock one back in.

took it to big valley ford . they said it was the stader and tfi module. dave the mechanic. I saw Eleanor there wondering whats it doing there but it was a nice ride. my was primer GT wsaleen wing and cobra rear.
