To install my Autom. Phantom Electric Oil Pressure sender to my '88 block, I used:

1/4 Pipe Thread Coupling Brass
1/4 by 1" Extension (goes into Block)
45* Elbow (goes into sender)
Another coupling for Elbow to extension.

With it installed, it gives about 4" of extra line before any oil hits the sender for the gauge. Would that extra space in the brass fittings alter values, perhaps making it lower PSI? Would reducers and the 45* elbow also be a big factor in oil pressure? The gauges will take over my cluster instrumention guage so I need this to be more accurate (re-freshed engine)

Also, do I use teflon tape for the Brass Oil Fittings into the block/coupling?

No it won't have any effect on the reading. If your looking for dead on accuracy I'd switch it over to a mechancal gauge as opposed to electric.

Actually on a mechanical gauge, the further away the guage is, the reading will be more inaccurate (take a class on hydrodynamics, you'll know why). On my '66 I used to have two guages, one in the dash, and one in the engine compartment. I noticed that there was a 2-3psi difference between the two, so I swaped them around to see if there was a difference. They both read the same as before, the engine compartment was 2-3psi higher than the guage in the dash. On an electric guage, it shouldn't make too much of a difference, if any at all.

Yes but he is talking 4" not the distance from the sender to inside the car. I do agree with what your saying but 2 to 3 psi is an acceptable amount even with a mechanical gauge. That would be like saying at the furtherest oiling point in the motor there is a difference as opposed to the first point the oil hits after it leaves the pump. Theres a difference here as well but it isn't really worth mentioning as is the case with the longer lines. At least IMO

Thanks for the info, I was also told to use some thread sealant as opposed to teflon tape.

ya pvc dope like used in plumbing works great. Give it sometime to set up. Also make sure the threads are clean [patriot]
