This tranny came of a 91' that had a possibly 103,000+ miles on it. Only guessing since the odo turned over. I was expecting the tranny to look like crap but to my surprise, it looks like this:
For those of you that have worked on T5's before, does this thing look like a typical 103K tranny or was it rebuilt before?
At magnet, not much but a small layer of sludge and no eveidence of any chipped teeth. I double checked all the gears as I rotated the shaft and could not find any gears that looked chipped/cracked.
Wear pattern from all indications, appear to be normal, smack in the middle of the tooth.
I do intend to replace the bearing retaining cover with a a steel unit.
I'll probably wash out the gearsets in solvent to remove any of the gunk that may still be around but I don't think this needs a rebuild. It went into gear prior to removal, and never jumped out of gear either. Shifting on the bench felt very smooth IMO.

Check and see how much you can push and pull on both shafts and check for end-play...The Shafts should have zero end play...
Otherwise looks good...

Trannies are typically very clean inside since tranny fluid is like a detergent.

Thanks for the replies. Since I am getting a new bearing reatainer sleeve, I'll check endplay afterwards and get shims as needed.
