This is something that I've heard of people doing themselves. Does this procedure usually require the removal of alot of material? Does one simply remove a generous amount to be on the safe side? Or do I just leave it alone and find a cam that doesnt require piston modifications?

btw,I am trying to use edblk 6025's with the 2.02 intake valves on a low mile 93 short block that I believe has hypertec/non forged pistons,is that better or worse? I am clueless [patriot]

Contact Apex Motorsports, they have a fly cutting tool specially made to do this job in the car(i.e. shortblock installed). Doesn't matter what type of piston.

the Hyp. pistons are not recomended with boost or N20, the forged is stronger but thats not really a problem for you though. Talk to Acames or 93pony they did a fly cut job once and can tell you how to do it.

Depending on the size of the cam you're running, you do NOT need to fly-cut the pistons. I'm running the same heads on a 93 stock shortblock with a TFS Stage 1 cam..no problems here.

True, you can get away with it with a tame cam. Most people just tend to run a healthy cam on a 302 with those size valves and usually higher compression or a blower.

I have the Isky notching tools and 93Pony did the notching. Pretty easy to do. Just time consuming. We checked every cylinder's P/V clearance. I cut .095" exhaust and .065" intake. Total clearance for each was minimum of .125" to be on the very safe side. I run a fairly large cam with 232/228 duration at .050 on a 110 LSA with very steep ramp rates.

Personally, I would rather buy new pistons....

I dont think it's worth the time and effort, especially when you're making a 93 hyperutetic piston weaker...Now is your chance to get some nece forged pistons.... [Big Grin]

I've had nothing but fun with this combo. [Big Grin] Stock shortblock, O-ring'd 2.02 heads with a TEA portjob, Ported Edlebrock intake, 1.6 rollers, Stage 1 cam..and..oh ya, the SQ-trim. [burnout]

The stock shortblock is getting tired...so the new shortblock is in the works now. [Wink]

I talked to the head piston guy at keith black (save o lite) John Erb a few years back and he assured me that a cut of .070 on a hyper-u piston is ok, he also said a cut of .070 to .100 SHOULD be ok on a hyper-u but you are pushing it. On forged pistons a cut of .100 is safe. I have a cut of .070 on my 93 motor and it has a lot of passes at the strip (150 plus) with no problems.

would you say that the tfs1 is still a good cam for a na car as well? would you happen to have the part#? or would you or anyone else suggest another? [patriot]
