By how much is a 87-93 hatchback or coupe than a 87-93 convertible mustang?

Why are convertibles heavier?

Has anybody stripped a convertible out?

Do they have dual reinforced doors like the newer ones? Or is it the motor to the convertible?

Woops! I meant to put lighter between "coupe" and "than" [Big Grin]

Well, you have numerous braces under the car on a fox convert that are not on a non convert. There is the motor for the top and all the supporting functions for it. As I recall a coupe weighs the lightest. A hatchback is 100#s heavier, A GT is 300# more and a convert is 100# on top of that. It's been a long time since I had to think about these #'s but I think I remember right.

What do you mean by supporting functions?

In your experience have you ever seen a convertible stripped?

Most people who buy convertibles don't buy them with the intention of racing. The main reason being they're not as strong as a coupe or hatch, and you need to spend a TON of money to get them to the same rigity as a coupe or hatch. Plus they weigh too much. I've seen a couple of SN95's in race trim, but there's not a lot. IMHO it's not worth it. 'Verts make better street cars than race cars.

If I recall correctly...i think a stock LX 5.0 coupe should probably weigh around 3000-3100 lbs. Stock LX hatchbacks weigh around 100 lbs. more than the LX coupe. And GTs weigh approximately 150-200 lbs. more than the LX hatchback. Convertibles are the heaviest of all.

I could be a little off though as my friends and I discussed this when I was looking to buy a car 2 yrs. ago.

Convertibles are meant to chill with the top down and cruise for the lady's and be a nice car to occassionally take to the track. If you want a pure race car look elsewhere. I'm going to do some ridiculous mods to my car but it will never be seriously raced. Strip to see what it runs, street race, maybe autocross open track here and there but if you want to be competitive and safe get a hardtop and go light weight [patriot]
