How about when going from a V6 to a V8 swap?

Besides getting a 4.6 or 5.0, I know I would have to swap the rearend, brakes, suspension, wiring harness and CPU, but other than that, what else would I need. My 96 already comes with a T-5, so the transmission should be ok.

I'm contemplating whether to keep my car or get rid of it in the near future.

Has anyone attempted this on their own?

PM "Cheap", he can answer all the questions you've got. He's got a 3.8 95 that's had both a 302 and 351 in it.

Hey

You don't NEED to swap your rear end, but it'd be a good idea if you up the power past stock levels any. That 7.5" isn't very strong. Also the V6 and GT brakes are the same. The suspension will work fine too. Your T5 will work but you'll need a different bellhousing.

I would highly recommend selling your 6er and buying a GT/Cobra unless you have some serious bank invested in your V6 that you just can't recoup, like I did. You can always keep aftermarket rims, stereos, etc. Plus a V6 car is always a V6 car on the VIN, which might give you headaches for insurance/smog/resale.

If you have a 96+ definetly go with a 4.6 and NOT a 5.0, if nothing else but for smog requirements. You will need a new harness/PCM, almost all of the accessories and support equipment (rails, injectors, etc) and will probably have to hack on some harnesses anyways. Also for the 94+ you gotta swap out the fan control module and radiator for V8 models. If you have any other Qs feel free to PM me.

Oh also if you'd like to consider just upping the power on your V6 I know of lots of things you could do, from H/C/I combos to stroking and the right people to talk to. If nothing else just check out 3.8mustang.com and v6power, if their server still works.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, sounds kind of like a big headache to do the swap. I kinda knew that from the beginning. I'll probably just go out and buy a new Mustang when the 2005's come out.
