There have been a few articles that suggest that the only thing that matters is that you get a K&N filter or some other good filter. It doesn't matter if it is in the stock box, in the fenderwall or in the engine compartment.

It just looks good over stock and maybe gives you 2hp. Unless you've got an 03 cobra which would give you 20+. I've seen it happen at Apex.

of course it all depends on the engine application. if the bottleneck is at the intake hose and filter, then it will make a significant difference. but as shown in an article at www.fordmuscle.com, put on a mildly modded 5.0, a CAI doesn't do much, if anything. Seeing as how the stock airbox takes the air in in the exact same place as the CAI's, I can understand how it doesn't improve airflow. I have heard, however, that smoothing the air charge with one of those smooth powerpipes, rather than the corrugated stock air tube, will make some improvement.

But other than performance, they are nice and shiny. [Big Grin]

cold air was the first thing i did to my 94 and i'd say it was worth it, dont expect a huge gain, but you should feel it.

Cold air makes a "HUGE" difference on Forced Induction applications....don't forget about that.
On a N/A motor it doesn't make as much a difference or HP gains, but does help a bit.

get a pipe without ripples like the stock one and a K&N filter and you'll feel a nice increase in throttle response. The numbers won't show it but you'll notice it [patriot]
