My car runs ok until the engine gets warm after about 20 minutes of driving. Then the oil pressure drops but will go up when I press on the gas. I am thinking it is oil pump. Also I have a bad crank which makes me go through harmonic balancers every other year. Now I have a knocking sound. I think it is time for a new short block with an oil pump. There is one online; 302 306 short block for 900 something dollars. Will this be an easy trade. Also I have the Eddle Brock II upper and lower intake which is suppose to add some horse power but will this be ok with the 306? Please I need help. I am far from being a mechanic.

Are you using an aftermarket oil pressure guage? It is normal for your oil pressure to decrease slightly when the car warms up, and your pressure should go up when you get on the gas.

If you're not mechanically inclined, you'll have a little trouble throwing a new engine together and dropping it in.

The edelbrock intake will work fine with the 306.

I doubt it is your oil pump. If the motor is already knocking, get a new one, and $900 is a ton for a used mostly stock 302. I have a complete 5.0 motor out of a 91 GT with 45 k original miles I'll sell you for $675. [Big Grin]
Have you checked or replaced the timing chain? Excessive play could cause the cam and distributor to not turn the oil pump as fast you as want all the time.

do you have an exact pressure you can say that it drops down to. It's normal for the oil pressure to drop after the motor gets warm. Then when you step on the gas it goes right back up. There is nothing wrong with that unless your oil pressure is really low [patriot]

get a new oil pressure sending unit and
go on half off day to pick u part and pull a 5.0 outta a 88 lincoin for $120.
think about it.those are family cars with auto trannys..they dont ever see more than 5000rpm
just swap the cam to stock or better and the accessories and your set..
i'm thrifty when it comes to cheap performance [Roll Eyes]

I thought you couldn't do that, Because it had to be an H.O engine... Am I wrong? [Confused]
