Anyone know where I can get one for my car, and which one to get. I know there are several types of "detroit lockers". I am not looking for a true-trac posi, or clutch type posi.

I have a 9 inch with 28 spine axles. I will be going to 31 splines and a 4.33 ring and pinion.

A Detroit Locker is a Ratchet style "posi" rear end, and there's only ONE Detroit Locker. The Trac-Lok in a stock 8.8 is a clutch type "posi". An Auburn is a worm gear style "posi". All have their pros and cons. If this is going on a street car, I would not recomend the Detroit Locker. It's real noisy when it "locks" and "un-locks", and it's really not made for making turns fast. I'd go with an Auburn for the street.

Thats great that you recommend an Auburn. I have been running a spool for a long time now, ON THE STREET, in a car that I autocross and I drag race, and I drive 80 miles to and from work in.

And no there is more than 1 type of Detroit Locker. And they all revolve around the same principle. I've blown up clutch type posi's before and thats why I went to a spool. Tracktech for example makes THREE different detroit lockers: The make a No-Spin locker, an E-Z Locker, and a Gearless locker. Summit only lists 1 in their catalog and that is for 28 spline axles. I know Moser makes a few as well.
