I have a 68 Mustang, 289 2v with an open end differential , I think 2.83 or 3.00 gears. I want to put posi in it but do not know exactly what gears would be best for everyday high school drving and some excitement hear and there. I have 15X7 inch rims and P225/60R15s on them. I was wondering if I should get 3.27, 3.50, or 3.55 gears. If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. You can reach me at:

Thanks,

Hi Michael,
One of the things is to look at you trans setup as a factor to which gears you decide to use. Is it a C4, 3 speed, 4 speed, ....?? If it is a C4, I would keep the 3.00 ratio if it sees highway/freeway time. 3.55s would be way to low a gear for the C4 at highway speeds - high rpms. If you have a 4 speed or better, 3.55 would do well. Basically you have to figure out what exactly you want to do with the car and base it off that. I have a Maverick Grabber with a roller 5.0 and C4, and the 3.00 ratio works well - performs nicely. I would like a little lower gear, but I want to keep the rpms down as low as I can at higher speeds. Hope this helps, and if you fill us in more on the trans we can probably help you out some more. I got 3:55's in my 65' with a C4. It's rarely gonna see freeway time. [patriot]
