i have a 93 taurus and the taillights are out. however, when i activate or deactivate the alarm, they do flash. this eliminates 3 possible problems. it is not the fuse (the front running lights and dash lights work so that wouldnt be it anyway), it is not the bulbs, and it is not the wiring. if anybody has any ideas what it might be and maybe how to fix it, it would be greatly appreciated.

Did this problem start when you installed the alarm? If not, when/how did it start?

the problem started when i was messing with the stereo(i think) at that time the alarm fuse also blew, which i replaced

Your stereo has a wire that turns on the lights on the stereo display when you turn on the tail lights. Trace this wire. Either you pluged it in wrong (grounded?) or it is crossed with another wire.

Are you sure your fuses didn't blow again?

Long story short, it sounds like you have some flakey wire connections, often due to bad crimps or exposing the wire (not using electrical tape or heat shrink tubing) so it can come in contact with other wires or the chasis (ground)

i can try that but like i said, all the rest of the lights on that fuse(front running lights, dash lights, stereo lights) still work.

i didn't actually change anything on the stereo. there is an aftermarket disc changer in it that didn't work when i bought the car, and i was trying to figure that out.

anyway, i'll try it and keep you posted. thanks

turns out that the previous owner had replaced one of the taillights with the wrong type lamp. this blew the fuse for the taillights and was making my right blinker and brake light act funny. you couldn't see that the fuse was blown, but when checked electronically, that half of the car had no power. the bulb and fuse have been replaced, and everything is operating normally. now to find a cop and get that fixit ticket signed off.
