I am starting to plan out my next motor because I know mine will start to get tired soon (120k). I want to build one on the side myself this year getting small parts along the way. My question is...If I want to be around 300-350hp on a 95 GT, what setup would you guys recommend for a 302? Should I buy a new block and start from there or is it just as good to get a used block and have it cleaned up? What heads/intake are inexpensive but worth buying? I don't want a monster, just something with a bit more bite than my stock GT.

a used block will be just as good in this case since you don't want gobs of power. Basically the simplest way tohit your goal would probably be the X cam with some 1.7's, 10:1 or higher compression with some AFR 165's or 185's or Twisted Wedges and your favorite aftermarket intake manifold. Good luck [patriot]

i'm going to use a ford racing sportsman block for my next motor, a e cam, 1:7 rockers, afr 185, and a edelbrock performer rpm 2, forged crank, h beem rods, forged pistons. but that is just my combo(have not decided on throttle body, egr plate, or injector size[i have a c&l mass air already])

Thanks guys for the info. I have to sell something at work to justify purchasing a block this early in the year. Realistically I am looking at May-June. I'll post a message if I come into money sooner. Thanks for the offer jmcclesk.
