k, I don't know much about cams and such, but this idea came across my head as I was reading a 5.0 magazine. the article was about cams, and there was something about the difference in lift and duration in each of the grinds they were using.

now from the coolcats website (a fox cougar/tbird site), I've read that the SO engines have flattop pistons, which restrict the amount of lift on a cam you can have. the only step higher is to use an HO cam. but what about duration? what if you had a cam that had as high lift as maybe a stock HO cam, but longer duration? again, I don't know much about cams and stuff, so I may be missing a basic concept, but would this work?

another thing; rocker arm ratios. a rocker with a higher ratio lifts the valves more, right? so would it be possible to maybe have a cam ground to have longer duration but not so much lift, then use a higher ratio rocker to compensate for the loss of lift?

Your car is speed density correct? If so, don't even think about a cam until you do a mass air swap.

any idea how much that would run, with just average cost of used parts? just looking for a ballpark figure, something to have an idea of how much to save

on that page it says any attempt to convert a stock Tbird 5.0 to mass air will cause engine damage. any idea why?

Probably because if left untuned it'll run too lean or ping.

get a cam and get it tuned for the mass air, you will see no problems. lift is lift whether you get it from the cam or ad 1.7's to get some more lift. duration is where it mostly counts. however if your moto is basically stock I wouldn't go anything too big, good luck [patriot]
