What are you guys paying when you send your car out to be wrenched on by someone else?
are there any good, yet reasonable shops in the san jose/santa clara area?

GNJ Motorsports in Milpitas. Owner and mechanic is Greg. Quality job as fast as possible. He's the type of guy that looks for repeat business so go down there and have a chat with him. I'm sure he'll suit your needs considering the only thing he doesn't work on is the insides of a tranny. Clutches, rear ends, motor work you name it. Go check him out

I never take my car to go get worked on but I think dealers are like $80 an hour.

They're cool at the private shop. I went up there one day and took about an hour of their work time just b.s.n and it was an interesting experience learning about the z's

when i work in the day time (main job) shop labor is 98.00 per hour
Side job rates 35.00 to 45.00 per hour. depending on the job. Usally jobs are bid by the specfic job not by the hour.

I usually encounter $80/hr when I look around. The only quality shop (did the job I asked and then some) I've been to around here was Apex, but I think they're slightly higher than that. (?)

I go with flat rate for my side jobs. That way, when I'm lazy cuz it's rainin' out..I don't feel too bad about not working on it!
