I'm losing coolant from the rear of the engine between the firewall and block, near the upper half... is there anything that I can check really quick, or any known common problems/parts back there?
The car has 119k on the stock block with only the mods listed below, and the stock thermostat.
thanks in advance!

Heater hoses and your intake manifold..that's all in the area.
Edit: and the freeze plugs in the back of the head. ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

pressure test the cooling system and look to see where the water is leaking from

Check the 2 heater core lines on the passenger side of the firewall.....
The best thing to do is run the engine and see if you can see any leaks or do a pressure test like someone else advised....

Thanks for all the replies!
normally I only notice a very small loss of coolant when its running, but more so if I "shut it down" for the evening to go to bed... then i notice a little pool showing up!
Im hoping that freeze plugs are easy to replace? Ill end up doing some investigation later today!
Thanks again, and merry Christmas!

Ok, now after the holidays are (somewhat) over, i noticed that its leaking coolant out of what appears to be the moisture drain for the heater core. Its located just aft of the passenger side header.
Im asumming that this means my heatercore is probably leaking and needs to be replaced, so how much do those tend to run new/used?
Thanks!

Yep, sounds like your heater core....They can run around $50-$60 new, but they can be a pain in the ass to install...
Good luck

If its your heater core, you can by pass till you fix it. (and freeze your ass off.) just disconnect the two hoses at the firewall and run them together, I forget what sizes they are but you can get the adapter. And it is no fun replacing it, I found someone to do it on the side for $300 including properly draining and recharghing my A/C, thats part of replacing it.
when my heater core went out I got a new one from FORD p/n F4ZZ*18476*A
list $105.79
I got it for 81.46

well, i work with a guy that does HVAC installs and stuff, so I wont worry about "proper" draining of the r-143a anyhow...
but cool, im looking at about $50 to $80 then.
thanks guys!
