The line vacuuom line that comes off the tree and goes into the firewall( where the heater core hoses come out ), is that the vacuuom line that opens and closes the vent? DO I need it to keep my defrost working? [Confused]

Yup, the AC control panel runs strictly off of vaccum. If you want it to work, ya better hook it up. [Wink]

depends do you only want defrost or you want vent and floor??

if only defrost it does NOT need any vacuum
if you want the other settings it needs vacuum

all I care about is defrost working, so if I disconnect the A/C tree then my defrost will still work?

I do know that the defrost on some cars does use the a/c pump to shoot cool air into the car, just hook it up brotha!

The A/C comes on (when in Defrost) due to a design by Ford that cycles the compressor during the winter months to keep it lubricated. [Wink]

also the A/C dehumidifies the incoming air, which does a great job of cutting the "fog" on the inside of the windshield when it's cold out.

here is a shot of what Im talking about, see the line that goes in above the 2 heater core taped of(black tape)inlets, if I remove the vacuuom tree its attached too, the A/C line on the main vacuuom tree, will defrost still work?

as you can see, I dont have A/C anyways, and Im trying to clean up the engine bay as much as possible!
