We need to know how much the car weighed with driver going down the track and what kind of tranny is in the car.

Posted by 89TRUNK (Member # 2506) on :

65 stang 302 w/ede. heads c4 trans, steel wheels,150-160 lb driver

I'm not sure how much those year stangs weigh so I'll just guess 3300 lbs with driver. That means you're making about 310 HP at the flywheel and with a C4 tranny you'll see 260 RWHP on the dyno-jet.

Thats not right at all, What PSI were the tires? Where they heated up right? What RPM were you leaving at? Were the tires spinning at all?

Yeah, something definately isn't right.... Is your trac-lock burtn up (one wheel peal?)? What RPM stall converter do you have?

Posted by 89TRUNK (Member # 2506) on :

i had them at 25,20,18,15 psi with a good burnout,15 and 18 had the same result.I have a 3k converter,i had to feather it off the line or take it to 2k with the brake then let off the brake for about a sec the get on it.I should be capable of mid 12's right 12.93@106 with a
2.0 60 ft.

The tires spun for about 30 feet hard then they hooked. It was a POS blue mustang at sac this past sat if you were there ,oh ya i let my buddies drive it a couple of times and they made a fool of them selves so it wasnt me driving all those runs if you were there.

i think that with driver your car is probably around 3100 lbs. those cars are light as shit last i checked.

You should be able to leave hard off the line. Once that break is let off your foot should be to the floor on the gas.

what do you define as a good burnout, were you smokin them until there was a nice thick cloud behind you, you really need to to truly heat them up [burnout]

I saw your car at the track. Didnt look like you were doing nearly long enough burn out. Do you have a line lock?? Like they said before if you dont see any smoke out your rear window keep heating them up until you do! Then that sucker will hook HARD. Just to be sure.. you have black wheels on the back with little et streets right?

Posted by 89TRUNK (Member # 2506) on :

ya that was me,i didnt leave a thick cloud of smoke but a thin cloud of smoke

650 HOLLEY DP
3k stall
3.55
26x10.5 et streets
65 mustang w/fiberglass hood

If you get serious hook, like lo 1.6's, you might see 12.4-12.3. Have a good shift kit in the auto?

Posted by 89TRUNK (Member # 2506) on :

Ya i have an excellent shift kit.WHat else can i do to make it run quicker?

Posted by GOT 50 (Member # 1960) on :

I ran a 106 mph at 13.2 in my vert weight with me in it a little over 3400. I dynoed 277 hp and 301 trq. Its a stick

1. Take out weight.
2. Make more power. (power adder, port heads, etc.)

It's all about power to weight ratio, Very simple. (and getting it to hook.)

Work on the suspension first. Landrum mono leafs and cal-tracks are the best thing for those old stangs.

Intake depends on the rpm range of your cam.Small cam and valves will have a hard time trying to get rid of the extra fuel.

Those are overkill for most street/strip setups. Fresh leaf springs w/ Shelby Traction Masters (~$70) and some Competition Engineering 3-way drag shocks out back and there front 70/30's or 90/10's up front will can get you into the 1.5's w/ enough power.

I agree about the cam. Know your cam specs?

Good advise here. I really liked those over-ride type traction bars that sit on top of the leafs that shelbys came with..Keep pluggin away

Should i remove my sway bar up front?heater?BTW this car is not drivin everyday just to the track and around mostly sits at my house.Im also thinking of getting some plastic rci with covers to remove some weight. What else can you think of that i can take off.

Posted by FasterDamnit (Member # 442) on :

Removing the sway bar will definitely improve your launch but really degrade your ability to corner. Put your battery in the trunk over the right rear tire.
http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2002/02/battery/index.shtml

Lighter is faster- just think carefully about whether or not you will miss the stuff you remove...

Again- any idea on your cam specs?

its an x 303 put in strait up

Posted by 89TRUNK (Member # 2506) on :

How hard is it to put in those shelby bars?any welding required?

Posted by FasterDamnit (Member # 442) on :

W/ the Xcam keep your intake. And yes, the Traction Masters need to be welded to the subframe. I highly recommend subframe connectors first- then weld the TM's to those.

I agree with FasterDammit, subframe connectors, and traction masters will make a difference. Both could be welded on by a good and willing muffler shop. Since your in Hayward, might wanna check out Maier Racing(www.maierracing.com) for the subframe connectors and installation(he could probably do the traction masters too). Hes not the cheapest but his work is great. Hope this helps!
