Do you have to resurface the flywheel if you install a new clutch? Or could you skip that step???....

YES, you have to resurface your flywheel...If you dont the surface will not be perfectly flat and even and will give you "clutch chatter"...Clutch chatter is when you let the clutch pedal up slowly and you feel a harsh vibration though the drivetrain as the clutch engages...

I'd say you could skip it, but its pretty cheap to have done. I think I paid like $45 to have mine resurfaced. I also had a lot of clutch chatter before the the new clutch and I didnt want to take any chances Id have it again. Id say do it.

It cost me $30 to do mine...I don't think that's a lot of money, I would do this everytime.

First I want to say my experience with this is limited to replacing a stock clutch with another stocker, it could be different with an aftermarket setup, but I skipped the flywheel surfacing when I did the clutch on my 85 GT years ago. The thing seemed fine for regular driving and the minor racing I did with it. About 10k later my fork broke and this time I was forced to let a shop work on the car, they inspected the clutch while they had the tranny out and said it looked fine but stuck a new disc in there since it was apart, again it wasn't resurfaced and it was all fine for about 4 years and then I sold the car.
So it worked out ok for me, if I did it now I would get it surfaced tho, but I was dead broke and short on time back then so I didn't. To make my longass story short, do it if you can, but if you can't I wouldn't sweat it.

well thats the problem right now is clutch chatter.. the whole freakin car shakes out of first... I thought i was the clutch.. so it is the flywheel.. dang.. ok.. i need to find a place open on the weekend and get it done then... Thanks guys
