With the new, (required), enhanced smog tests, OBDII cars like a 4.6 require the tech to wiegh the car, plug into the CPU test port under the dash and other stuff that prevents a cool smog tech from putting in your info and smogging a clean Camry. The only way for a sideways smog guy to do it now is to use another car, but very risky for him and you. Unless he trusts you, good fucking luck finding someone to risk it.

What the other guy said. Bring in your buddy's car about the same year as yours switch license plates and hope he don't check vin number. If he does tell him you don't know what's up? U just bought car. They can't do shit. Just tell them u have to find out what's up and bounce. Just an idea....

with smog people losuing their licenses and getting thousands of dollars in fines when they get caught "giving hookups", it's getting harder and harder to find people willing to risk their asses faking smog tests. looks like you're probably going to have to put on the smog stuff and get your car clean again. one of the reasons I want to move out of cali, along with $300 registration costs.

so what you all need then is a DMV hookup.... just erase that little extra step in the dmv book [Wink]

yeah, put a 1 over the 3 in "3 times the cost, eh?

The new smog tests are harder to pass, because they also test the exhaust gas temperature, (detecting higher compression), and the new smog machines not only test the car under load, but are more sensitive than the old machines. That's not to say that you won't be able to pass legally, just dont expect a car with a cam, no cats and half the EGR system missing to be even close. The smog guy is gonna laugh. I'm no smog tech, but I am familiar with the tests.

I wish I would have known sooner about this test. My stock 99 saleen failed the first time becasue my OBD came up with the code P-1000, I disconnect my battery when my car is not in use. SO My OBD had no memory, and it failed smog beacuse the OBD was low on memory. I drove the car 150 miles or so the it passed. Each smog is about $75. SO $400 for reg and $150 smog. $550 to get my car back on the road, DAMN [Mad]

that sucks
for smogII do the techs have to sacn the actual vin #, or do they hust scan the vin # on the paper work, because if they check the paperwork only then the switching liscence plates idea would work great
crap my buddy with a built 406 (chevy), bigger cam, big carb
he tack welded a cat on each end of his dumps and got his truck to pass, the wonders of knowing a cool smog guy

Here in SAC, we have our vehicles tested on a smog dyno, idle, 15 mph, and 25 mph testing. I guess not all areas of cali are the same? In addition to some of the earlier post saying that OBD 2 cars get a further check out.

The air in Florida isn't that "salty", especially if it's inland and not from the coast.
Also, just cuz I'm from FL doesn't mean I brought the car from FL too. [Big Grin]
