How much boost can a stock motor handle with 50,000? Going with vortech s trim.... with power pipe, 42's, 80mm maf, and 255 fuel pump. i want to go with either 10 pound pully and power pipe, or just the 8 with power pipe. thanks

You'll be fine at both boost levels as long as you get a 255lph inline pump to help out your 255 intank, and you get your car tuned with a custom chip on the dyno. Expect around low 300 rwhp with that setup.

Your block won't break from too much boost it will break from too much HP.

The 4.6 doesn't like detonation(but no motors really do [Wink] ). As long as it's tuned, it'll take that 10lbs without a problem.

No, the correct answer is no,,you wont be fine running that much boost on a 4.6 with a stock bottom end,,plus it has 50,000 miles on it..it will only last a little while,,trust me on this one 4.6 internals SUCK!! not to mention your head valves and springs which a lot of people know for experience that you will keep blowing head gaskets even with a perfect tune,,10psi is way too much,,8 is better if you still want to go for it..but be saving your dollars for your new and better 4.6 block once you get done with this one..

RoberTS, keep in mind he does not have the '99+ GT heads and will only make around 300 rwhp, which is not much for a 4.6L bottem end. There have been too many boosted '96-'98 boosted 4.6L's over the years that have lived long and happy lives with a proper fuel system and tune.

i've seen so many blow'd up modulars...
caused one, too!

get an aftermarket ignition to bypass the stock rev limiter, 2x 255 lph pumps and a good tune!

I purchased a polished vortech s trim today with just the 8lb pulley and power pipe, and blow off valve... should get it within a week or so.. very excited. 8lb's with a power pipe and obviously chipped and tuned should last me a while dont you think???? let me know

Sawson is saying ~300 to the wheels. They came with ~250 at the crank...that's ~210 to the wheels.

its a 96 saleen s281 non supercharged.. they came with 220hp. im installing a polished vortech with 8lb's and power pipe... chipped and tuned. with 42's, dual 255's, and 80mm MAF. that will put me in the lower 300's to the wheels and like 330-340 to the crank. the new ones will get like 365-370 to the crank and like 340 to the wheels

my suggestion is that 10 might be too much. The guys are right . 4.6's don't like to be blown to much, they alwyas snap. my friend knows someone who snapped like three 4.6 blocks with his sc. go with the 8.

On the 4.6s, the pistons and rods will go first before the head gaskets... The stock ones are actually pretty stout... Like Ross mentioned above, these motors are very pickey when it comes to detonation... It all comes down to the tune and how you drive the car... Meaning, not getting into boost when its too hot or too cold... Also, you need to always have good gas in it, and don't get greedy with wanting more power either (swapping pullies)... When you start to change things, thats when things start to go wrong...

right now i use premium but when i get it installed for sure premium... im just going safe with 8lbs' and power pipe and tune and chip, with dual 255's.... lean means detonations and dentonation is bad!!!!!!!!
