I am going to relocate my battery this weekend but am very hesitant on also doing the switch. Since it has to be exposed, it can be messed with at all times, especially when I am at the mall or somewhere where the car is alone for hours!
Is Sacramento Raceway really that strict if you have a relocated battery? Will they not let you race if there is not one installed? Or should I just say f--- it and do it!
Thanks
JV

i thought you could relocate it with out the switch. the switch was only needed for 9's and blow. im not sure on this though

Ive seen some really innovative placement of battery on off switches. Mine is very exposed, but I like the way I did mine. I dont know how strict certain race tracks are. They have questioned others I have been with, and the only thing they ever asked me was if I tapped in positive or not. Its a nice safety thing to have nonetheless.

If you don't have the switch, you're really taking a risk everytime to go to the track. The switch is there for the rescue crew to help YOU in a crash. Consider it cheap insurance.

you need to have a battery switch that is fully exposed and labeled on and off any time you move the battery from the original position

mine's behind the license plate

I asked them at Sac last time I was there and they specifically told me that I wouldnt be able to run if I didnt have the switch. But is there any reason why it cant come out under the trunk, like in the wheelwell or something?

Thanks guys. I guess its going on.
I'll post some pics if I can after the job is done. I am thinking of putting it right obave the License plate but mounted on the trunk door itself. I have not decided exactly where but that is my first option. any suggestions? Oh, its going on a sn95 style if that helps.
Thanks

really? thats cool....go to pick and pull and make your mustang license plate fold like the maro's does. kustom!!!
knowing you you will probably have some L.E.D setup for your on/off switch

you can take off the switch nob with a Philips screw driver when your driving around town and put it back on when you go to the track.

I use a key'd switch. That way, I can remove the key as an added theft deterant!
YMMV,

with a screwdriver you can remove the license plate in all of 30 seconds...

shade-
so, you expect the track safety crew to spend 30 seconds (after they locate a screwdriver) removing your license plate while your burning car is upside-down and you're trapped inside???????/
i think you misunderstand the PURPOSE of the SAFETY SWITCH.
it is to save your life and needs to be a big well-marked switch like all the real racers use, not some hidden gizmo that nobody can find in an emergency...
oh well, in rock climbing we had a saying, "dumb ones die"
I hope anyone with a relocated battery follows the rule to the letter without shenanigans.
good luck, man!
stay safe

spoken like someone who has never seen my car run this year.
I pull the plate off at the track. How difficult is that to understand?
Posted by Fast472Mach1 (Member # 2559) on

I don't understand Shade. I guess when we race at the track I'll find out as I'm following you.

he takes the plate off when he races. so there is no problem. then when hes done, he puts his plate back on so know one will be tempted to play with it.
very smart, i think ill do that too

the first picture with the studs and shit looks completely fuckin gay. i hope shade- dont have that.
the one with the flip down license plate gets my approval...but you still need to make it stay flipped down... let me see you come up with something like that now
Posted by 91sleeper (Member # 779) on

Why is the first one completley gay? The first one actually looks real good and clean and completley hides the battery cut off switch so knowone fucks with it. If your worried about someone jacking your plates than you can just get regular nuts and take the wing nuts off.
Plus who gives a fuck if it gets your approval? I know I don't.

I don't like the flip down one. its ugly and the plate will probably scratch the bumpers paint.
Posted by shade- (Member # 298) on

I just used standard license plate screws that are ~ 3/8" longer than stock and some copper tubing behind the plate to stand it off.
not rocket science, and nobody can tell the difference unless you're staring right at it.
those of you that want to hack up the rear of your car more power to you.

ive seen shades set up look just like stock, the flip down seems gay to me

Anyone have pics of their set up on a SN95 style? I think I found the spot for the switch but I am open for suggestions.
Thanks

Not sure who exaclty made this certain type BUT...the one I had on my Mustang had a orange keyway type deal that would stay in place if need be for track purposes, but at the same time can be removed for obvious reasons. It had a half moon type key setup so it need the key to turn on/off.It worked great for track purposes and could easlily be removed when not needed..
I believe it came with the cheesy Kragens battey relocater deal...
Hope this helps..
Oh and it passed tech ever time

On all of the other battery shut off switches most of them you can remove the actual handle when your not at the track.
