I had 150K+ miles on my car when it was torn down for a rebuild due to two bolwn head gaskets. I always ran either Amsoil or Mobil 1 5/30 synthetic. The bearings and cylinders all looked very good.

If your car is running fine, stick with what you've been using.

How many miles are on the car?....
I would use Castrol or Mobil-1 10w30 synthetics with either a Mobil-1 oil filter or K&N oil filter.....It would be a waste to use fully synthetics with a $2.99 Fram oil filter...

Mobil-1. I even used it in all my motorcycles. It was tested against some of the top synthetic motorcycle oils & it came out on top, just ahead of Castrol Syntech. This was a test to see if motorcycle oils are really better than car oils. Motocycle oil is a bunch of . I never had any problems running Mobil-1 in all my bikes & cars.

Redline as it is truly a full senthetic 5-30, mobil 1 is a synthetic blend btw for anyone who thinks its a pure syn it is still a mineral based.

how about for a 117,000 mile 94 gt with the 5.0
(1 cylinder has piston slap) what would be the best weight?
also I read in my Ranger's Chilton manual that synthetics are bad for higher mileage cars, is that true for all cars? I thought it was supposed to be better!

alright I have been into automotive feild for some time now and recently discovered that Mobil 1 is not a pure synethic. What i mean is that it is still a mineral based composition. Which is not a true synethic i have not seen any new mobil 1 bottle recently stating full synthetic. Redline and royal purple are a true synethic nothing about the oil is organic or mineral based it is designed in a lab.

How did you discover this? ...C'mon try and prove it!
Nate~RiddlerGT, in an oil refinery, crude oil is separated into various stocks. These become the basis for lubricating oils and fuels. Thick tangled masses of carbon chains become asphaltic materials used in roofing tar and road work. Very short chains and ring compounds of carbon are volatile and can be refined to produce gasoline and other solvents.
While petroleum refining is an advanced science, small amounts of contaminants, such as sulfur, reactive hydrocarbons and other materials cannot be completely removed from petroleum, and may end up in motor oil base stocks.
All motor oils are made up of base oils and additives. In general, fully synthetic motor oils contain non-conventional, high-performance fluids, such as polyalphaolefins (PAOs). Semi-synthetic oils (also called "blends") usually use a small percentage of non-conventional, high-performance fluids in combination with conventional oil.
To meet the demanding requirements of today's specifications (and our customers' expectations), Mobil 1® uses high-performance fluids, including polyalphaolefins (PAOs), along with a proprietary system of additives. Each Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ viscosity grade uses a unique combination of synthetic fluids and selected additives in order to tailor the viscosity grade to its specific application.
Are you still with me Nate?
Here's some more, Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ is original equipment (it is installed at the factory) in:
Chevrolet Corvette (including Z06 and the old ZR1)
All Porsche vehicles
Mercedes-Benz AMG vehicles
Dodge Viper
Ford Mustang Cobra R
All Aston Martin cars
Your only making yourself look bad...

If I think what you have to say is un-true and mis-informing to the other members of cafords.com then I will comment...I hope other members do the same for me...
The ONLY thing I hope to accomplish by disputing on the internet is the correct answer, so I can learn!!!!...Opinions are opinions, but facts talk for themselves....Arguing is for second graders...

Mobil-1 15W-50 Yup, that's what I used in my R-1 (actually all my bikes). I've kept it redlined in 2nd gear for a long time on 1 wheel at 100 mph (106 was the fastest I landed it in 2nd gear-tacked out, don't know how accurate that is though). U know all the oil is to the back of the engine for quite a period of time at that point & I've never had any problems at all. And believe me I've done this plenty of times on a daily basis during my commutes to work & on the weekend rides thru out all of our Bay Area freeways. WHAT A RUSH!!!

Yes that is true for all cars. Synthetic oils are thinner and will find every little crack and hole in your gaskets. Before you know it your car will be leaking out everywhere.
I actually used Mobil 1 Synthetic oil in my fox when it had 132,000 miles not knowing any better. Before I knew it I was leaking oil out of everywhere.
Then I just went back to using my regular Castrol 10w30. No problems since. Now I have 160,000 miles on my fox.
Hmmm...28,000 miles in four years, that's not bad is it?
