have you bought the car yet or are planning on buying it, the 4r70w trans that is in that car is very strong and doesn't go out that much put some pulleys and flows on it and you might dip in the 13.99 range if its going 14.11 now.

Well that depends on how much faster you want it to be and how much money you can spend. I say get a cam next...

Get a Supercharger, But be prepared to spend lots of money if you want to go fast.

Personally I wouldn't buy a modified stang.... especially when there are so many unmodified used 4.6l GT's for sale these days. Don't worry about the '99+ AOD trannies, they're strong.

thanks for your input the car has flows and were i live smog is not a major isue so i was thinking an offroad x and it already has flows on the car so that is done oh and it has fms 3:73 gears in it already, i was told a 2800 stall and it will hit in the 13:70 range on good tires but not sure if thats the route i wanna go, any other bolt ons that might help let me know? What about throttle body or timing adjuster? can you put a venom box piggy back to the programing? thanks for the help oh and about buying a moded car its a close friend of mine and it is babied only run a couple time and very well taken car of

Underdrive pulley's and an off road X/H pipe should be next on the list of mods to make you go faster... [patriot]

All of this depends on how fast you want to go and how much you can spend. A new stall converter might work but you have to drop the transmission to do that so might be a bit more pricey than you want. Chips, timing pointers, throttle bodies, etc can add up but the price will add up too, could have bought a supercharger by then. The biggest bang (no pun intended) for the buck would have to be nitrous. Although buying a set of ET Streets mounted on a set of steel wheels that you bolt on when you get to the track would probably net a pretty good improvement too.

When I put the shift kit in my 95 auto it made a world of difference. Bone stock on street tires it ran like a 15.8 I believe. Then with 4.10's a shift kit, pullies, cold air intake, and an off road pipe it went 14.2 with a 2.3 60 ft. at 10* of timing. I bumped the timing up and was going to buy some ET streets and it would have been a 13 second auto but unfortunately the car no longer exists. My advice right now would be pullies, timing adjuster, cold air intake, and the shift kit and torque converter if you can afford it. That would take you low 13's and still be smog legal. Then if that isn't enough you can start tricking out the exhaust and put a mass air and throttle body on it and then get yourself some sticky tires. Bang high 12's after that you need to talk power adder. I'm a fan of the pTK turbo kit but if money is an issue nitrous is a lot less expensive [Wink]

Ok, I have a 01 GT, it used to be an automatic, now its a five spd,,,from my experience, since I've done lots of modifications to my car, I can tell you this:
start with basics, TB, CAI, pulleys, exhaust,
then if you want a power adder: my suggestion is stay away from Saleen Superchargers, (They suck) [Wink] I had to find that out the hard way.
If you want a SC go with centrifugal SC such as Vortech, Procharger, etc.
But my point goes for a good shot of Nitrous, NX seems to be very good [patriot] ,,,and if you do use a power adder don't forget to use aftermarket Lower Control Arms and Upper Control Arms, to keep traction [dance] , if the car is lowered already then you'll be good to go.
Oh. I almost forgot, make sure you tune that thing. [Big Grin]

My girlfriend just bought a 01 auto a well. We are getting a timing adjuster and pulleys. The car already has a cat back and a KNN filter. All it will need to dip into the 13's.

With an auto don't get a Timing Adjuster and here's why. If you plan on going with gears, shift kit, stall etc... you will have to get a chip to correct the gears and shift points and if thats the case then you just get the car tuned at the same time. If you don't do the above then get the TA otherwise you will just be wasting money.

If you really want the car to be quick don't mess around with all the little bolt ons.

Since it has gears and shift kit the next mod that you SHOULD do is a torque converter, I would go with one that stalls around 3,000 for your car.

Then I would go with some pulleys and then get a tune with chip. That way all the shift points can be corrected and that will also bump your timing up.

So your next mods should be:
1. 3,000 Stall torque converter
2. Pulleys
3. Dyno tune/chip

if youre getting it for a good price go for it
but from experience the trannies dont like to be manually shifted they dont automatically go in the next gear it kinda slips and then kicks into it so i would get a good shift kit and some breathing bolt ons, some cams, tune and a shot

if u could look for a stick GT at a good price
