Well, my 5 lug kit came today and I drained all my fluid out of the differential and removed my 4 lug axles... But now I am wondering what the BEST gasket is to use when I put the cover back on AND what is the BEST rear end fluid to use????
Thanks guys

i think its called friction modifyer but they sell it at auto zone it comes in like a tube type thing.as far as gasket i use a gasket and a nice tube of RTV also.

You need the friction modifier and some Ultra Blue like on n20 said. No need for a gasket. I like valvoline synthetic rear end fluid, but as long as it stays full, any should do.

Sweet. I think I will go with those two (Ultra Blue and the friction modifier)
Does anyone know the mixture?? Is it like 50/50 or 70/30 or what?? Thanks

the frictin modifier is just a little bottle of stuff, u just put in the bottle, its like 4-6oz if i remember from doin my trucks rearend 10 times , then just fill the rest with a decent gear oil, i actually use gear oil made by honda's motorcycle division, seems weird but it makes the gearsthe queitest, also royal purple is suppose to be good, i am gonna try that the next time i change gears

oh ya, i use ultra balck rtv, i think it selas better, never had aproblem with either color but black israted at a higer temp if i remember, plus it doesnt look as bad if u dont clean it up perfect

When i did my 5 lug conversion i used ultra black sealer no gasket..no leaks. The whole bottle of friction modifier purchased at ford and dont get it on your clothes that shit stinks. i ran 80/90 gear oil from kragen dont forget to get the pump thing to put the fluid in or else it will take forever. good luck.

I forgot about that! Thanks a lot ... The conversion should be done in about 2 days and I will have pictures for everyone to see... Before/After all that good stuff

I broke a few of those. Chevy rearends suck.

dont overfill your rearend, 8.8s in 5.0s only take about 2 quarts of gear oil. fill it up a little less then halfway then add about 4 oz. of friction modifier to prevent clutch chatter. As for gaskets and gear oil, i've had good luck just with rtv or rtv and a gasket and synthetic gear oil.
