sometimes when i get on it hard and go to shift second the gears grind for a sec. before it goes in. Is the tranny going out?

either your syncro is toast or your transmission is not fully disengaged when you're shifting, i.e. could be a bent plastic quadrant, stretched clutch cable, things like that.

When my car did that 2nd gear synchro was bad. cause: I bought a cheap shifter!!! Pay the money for a good shifter it will save u on your next tranny.
