I am almost %100 percent sure that the squealing noise my car is making is from the pilot bearing. Just wondering how bad, and what effect does a bad pilot bearing have?
Is it okay for me to drive on it like this for awhile till I get the whole motor swapped out.....or do you guys think this is something I should try to fix ASAP?
The squeal stops as soon as I press in the clutch, so I'm assuming it's the pilot bearing and not the T/O bearing. Also because I swapped out my Flywheel, Clutch, Pressure plate and T/O bearing recently....but had trouble getting the pilot bearing out so I just greased it up and said fuck it not changing it!

Actually, that probably is the T/O bearing if it stops when you press on the clutch. When you changed everything, did you get a steel bearing retainer also? If not, that's probably why the T/O bearing is sounding like a cricket.

Hmm, actually no. I didn't change to a steel bearing retainer. If it was the T/O bearing....wouldn't it make noise when you press in the clutch? Because that's when it would be dis-engaging the clutch and start spinning the T/O bearing.....where as the pilot bearing spins when the clutch is engaged?

the pilot bearing ALWAYS spins. ANYTIME the motor or tranyy output shaft is moving, the pilot bearing is moving. The pilot bearing is just a place for the tranny input shaft to rest. It has no other role as far as engagement and disengagement of the clutch or gears.
--to answer your question, i'd say its the throwout bearing.

Ahhh....I see, thanks for the info. Looks like I'll just replace the T/O bearing and steel shaft retainer then.
