I know you can get the gt 40 heads, upper and lower intake from exploers with a 302, but what years of explorers have the 302? What about the F or E series trucks? Do any of those have GT 40 stuff in them? Do any of them have a larger mass air meter that can be used in a 5.0?

off the top of my head...

94-97.5 explorers = GT-40
97.5- '00 explorer = GT-40P

only explorers/mountaineers,lightnings and 93-95 cobras had the GT-40 heads

whats the difference between gt40 and gt40p?

not much, honestly, more swirl, revised spark location, slightly higher efficiency, probably slightly smaller combustion chambers, and usually specific shorties are required, but most long tubes work.

probably within 5-10 HP of each other

would the stock 5.0 headers bolt up allright?

you need different headers for the "P"s, unless you have longtubes

How could you tell the 2 apart visualy? Is there a casting number on them or anything?

easier than you'd think, the front of the head has 3 bars if GT-40, 4 if GT-40P, these are large, raised lines on the front of the head, like 2" long.

also, F77E (I think, going on memory) is casted under the GT-40P valvecover, along with the letters 'GT-40P' [Big Grin]
