Just thought I'd drop in and share some dyno results with the locals, before they go up on FordMuscle.com.

Car was dynoed this past Wed at Advanced Dyno Tech in Suisun, CA (Dynojet)

--------------------
1993 Cobra
78k miles

Stock short block (new timing chain.)
Cobra Cam, retarded 4 deg.
AFR 165 heads (56-58cc) Dremel clean-up to remove CNC ridges.
Crane 1.7:1 Gold rockers, 7/16" stud. 1/3 turn lifter preload.

Ported Cobra lower (Fel Pro 1250)
Cobra upper, TB neck gasket matched to 70mm TB
3/8" intake spacer
70mm TB
76mm MAF (C&L)
24lb injectors
Pullies
KN Panel filter
Shorty headers, Prochamber, Stock 93 Cobra cat-back
Stock Fan + Full Belt
-----------------------

Couple notes:

-Ice-bag used to cool intake.
-3 pulls made, best two shown below.
-Air Fuel Ratio starts off at 18:1 due to bad O2 sensors (have since been replaced.)
-Best/Last pull is with 39psi fuel pressure.

Guess those AFR's are not much to brag about. [Wink]

300rwhp w/ a Cobra cam- who'd a thunk it?

NICE! Looks like you have ~5 RWHP on the table by leaning out the air fuel ratio another point. So how does the car feel on the butt dyno compared to your old h/i/c combo/car?

nice. Should run at least 110 mph then right? (I thought you were leaving it stock, lol)

thanks for the feedback guys.

Sawson...ya, HP was going up every pull as we backed off FP by 1-lb. increments. Dyno operator didn't want to go leaner because of the extreme lean 18+ that was occuring at cruise due to the bad O2's.

It feels stronger than the '88, that is for sure. Since that car did 108, I think this should do at least 109. Hopefully I can get track numbers in the next couple months. Have to travel to Germany in a couple weeks, so time is tight.

Very impressive results! [Eek!] Very clean looking curve, or lack of curve is the better term.

I sure hope I can muster more than 311 RWHP with my new setup [Embarrassed] [Wink] Right Sawson, lol [Smile]

Yeah, that's what I was thinking....

If you know how to grind a cam, please step forward:

-Ford

-AFM

-Ford Motorsport

-Ed@FTI

-Brian@Hi-Tech

-Comp Extreme Cams

.......Not so fast Edward [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Wink]

At least we now know know Eddies "secret grind" to make 300+ rwhp with AFR165's and a cobra intake [Big Grin] [Wink]

If anybody wants to duplicate this setup, I have a stock 93 Cobra cam sitting in my garage & am willing to sell for $75.
Just so we all know what this cam is, it's the same cam Ford uses in the T-bird 5.0's.

How did you know that the O2's were bad?....Are you sure its not a bad MAF sensor?...

The air/fuel seems still a "tad" rich at 4,000+ for a NA combo....What was your base timming, 12*?
I would change tha cam for sure, but pretty good number either way.... [patriot]

Well the car has had bad "tip in" detonation since I bought it about a year ago. At 3/4 throttle, or during transition to WOT, it pinged with 91 octane, 10 degrees timing, and this is with the stock motor. I assumed it was just carbon buildup on the piston tops... but when i put the AFR heads on, the pistons were clean.

Anyway, HH, the dyno shop owner, saw the 18+ A:F ratio at cruise (as seen on the dyno chart before WOT) and immediately said that is due to bad O2's.

The next day I put in new O2's and problem solved.

I think you're right there may be a few more HP/lb.ft. by getting the AF closer to 13.

Just crunching some numbers..... if it weighs 3400 lbs going down the track, it should run 110 mph. Can't wait to hear the track results.
