if your car isnt running right, and the check engine light is on, your best bet would be to have somebody check your codes. ask around on here if anybody has a scanner, im sure somebody would help you out.

check plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and your timing. then we can talk.

i put new plugs, wires, cap ,roter, put timing back down to 10* stock thought maybe it could be my distributor cause a friend was seting my timing and said it was jumping,he realy dident explain but said it was missing somewere.

maybe he didnt set the timing right, or the distibutor or cam gear is worn. How does it drive above idle?

Posted by phat50 (Member # 1998) on :

above idle its fine,a little hesitation in the morning when its cold but at wot no problems.just idle really ruff like it wants to cut off but it never do.when its idleing ruff i just put my foot on the gas just a tiny bit and you can hear it missing.but some times like after i get off the freeway it will idle fine with vacume at 18 steady just for a little bit.

what does the vacuum read at idle?

Posted by phat50 (Member # 1998) on :

at idle the vacume reads 18 but when its missing it reads 16 or 15 really shity.

Check/replace the TFI.

Posted by phat50 (Member # 1998) on :

you mean the TFI on the side of the distributor?would that have any thing to do with the way the car idles?i had one go out before and the car wouldent start. [Confused]

I've seen them cause a rough idle, timming jump around and loose power,no start.

I'm not saying thats your problem just something to look at.

ill try and find a used one and see if it will work.do you think the scanner should have picked it up if the TFI was bad?
