How can I tell if my catalytic converter(s) is busted? What kind of noise would it make? On my car, when I'm cruising at 3000 rpm and then floor it I hear this nasty crackling/rattling sound. It sounds like a bag of screws bouncing around. I've got a bassani X that already had the original cats replaced. But when those busted it was a pretty obvious rattle(sounded like someone was shaking a spray paint can)This time it sounds more like a crackle. Can an exhaust leak sound like this?? What do you guys think???

What year is your car?...If its 96+ then you have an OBDII computer...You also have four O2 sensors....If you scan the computer for codes it uses the 2 pre cats and 2 post cats O2's to tell you if you have a bad cat...

If your car is lowered you might be crushing the cats on bumps and causing them to brake up internally....If they have broken peices inside they will rattle...

Noises are hard to figure out on the internet...I suggest getting an off-road pipe
