I am considering going from my current 235/60/15 BFG drag radials to 315/35/17 Nitto DR's on my sbc 240z. What tire combo do think would give the best traction on launch. The 235's have the sidewall and the 315's have the contact patch. Anyone hooking hard on 315's??

Personally, id rather have more sticky rubber on the ground, than sidewall to absorb the launch.

315's [patriot]

Definately go with the bigger contact patch for the most tracion, since they're both drag radials..

The 275/50/15 is a nice size but I was wanting that tall but WIDE wheel look ...

No. Im thinking that is not going to happen bro. I ran 315 Nitto's before I swapped to real street tires and the best 60fts were inthe mid 1.8 range. I know my driving has improved somewhat sense then, but I will give the vote twards the more sidewall tire. They CONSISTANTLY produce better 60ft times over a wider, shorter tire. Proof is in the time slip [patriot]

Thanks Drew, I figured the 235's would do a little better even though they are quite a bit narrower. I guess it comes down looks vs performance....

235/60/15 26.12 TALL 9.26 WIDE
275/50/15 25.84 TALL 10.83 WIDE
275/60/15 28.00 TALL 10.83 WIDE
315/35/17 25.70 TALL 12.41 WIDE
HOPE THIS HELPS

The softer the compound the stickier the tire, but the compound of the tire is almost the same with both drag radials..With a lower profile tire you get power to the road faster..This would be better in most cases, but if your suspension doesnt absorb any power its gonna go right to the tires, making them spin...

Since the tire compound is almost the same and with the correct suspension set-up, you could only benefit from comtact patch with the road....315's have more comtact patch than 235's...

But like Drew said, proof is in the time slip.. [Wink]
