Anyone ever install a 140 amp powermaster alternator. I just bought one off the net and got it today and hooked it up. i noticed that my stock amp gauge reads really low, is the gauge suppose to work right with the after market alt. i drove the car for awhile with the lights off and it ran fine but im not sure if the alt is charging the battery. I hooked the red wire to the positive battery post like it said, also it has no ground and it didnt say to ground it. is it working fine, how can i check if its charging my battery.

An easy way to check it is to disconnect the pos. terminal on the battery while the car is running. If the car keeps running, it's charging. If it dies, it isn't. Be very careful when messing with the pos. battery cable. It's rare, but a spark can explode the battery gases. [patriot]

yeah but if i unplug the positive on the battery i unplug the alternator too since its connected to the the clap that goes around the positive battery post

oh yeah, duh and if it stays on im cool?

If it stays on it means that your alternator is providing an output to keep your car alive at idle. If you're really paranoid, just take it to any parts store, they have the machine to check alternators and they test them for free.

yeah but should the factory battery gauge work with the powermaster alternator or no because none of the factory wiring is used

yeha i unplugged the negative and the car died, im gonna try doing the 3 wire hook up and see what happens, i noticed the alternator only really came on once or twice when i really stepped on the gas

Sounds like you got a bad alternator. Take it down and have it tested for free and see what comes up. IMHO return it to whoever you bought it from and get a 3g alternator from Kragen. [patriot]

theres another wire your supposed to conect on those alts. Its a small wire did you conect that? Without that wire the alt won't work.

Yeah thats what i was talking about. Did you have to modify the alt. mount? I had to it sucked.

my friend has the same alternator, except i believe hi sis a 160 amp, anyways he didnt have to buy any other parts. the one wire goes to the battery, and of the stock alternator harness there was a small clip that attaches to one of the 2 posts on the 130 amp alternator. kinda hard to explain over the net. its more of a gotta see it thing.
