were ever you go (dealer)they will only warranty it for about a year.

dealer motor cost = 3000-5000 depending if you have a hook up and its only warrantied for 1 year
junk yard motor = 1000-1500 depending where you go
they come with 90 days warranty

i would just get a junk yard motor and swap it out

I done 5 swaps (99+ motors to older 4.6l) with no problems you just need to swap your timing chain cover and oil pan over
and every thing else should bolt right up to the motor you will need to use the bolts off the new motor to bolt on the the timing cover couse the bolts are diffrent sizes

also I would recomend you tune it to get the best power out of it couse the computer is tuned to make less power, which the 98 and older 4.6 make

I would not do a head swap
couse its goin to cost you just as much as buying a used motor with 30k on it
and if you have alot of miles on your motor already the bearing might no handle the extra power and you might spin the a bearing or 2
trust me its alot simpler to do a motor swap then it is a head swap

-How are the fuel system the same?...You have an extra line goin back to the tank on a return style fuel system, right?....

I'm sure that just a stock `99+ "long-block" will fit in the place of a 96-98 "long block", but I think that "nineeightstang" wants a complete engine....

The only difference in computers is that the 96-98' are tuned differently than the 99', so a chip would help performance, but not necessary (computers are smart, let'em do their job ). So anyways with the engine, picture a 98' with return style and coil packs (you're right about the returnless on 99'); they would still be there if he took his motor out and swapped it with a 99' motor; you literally just have to swap it out, they will work. There are no tricks or tough switching techniques, the engines are virtually the same it is just the components that are different. I can get a pick up my setup for you tomorrow if you want, as mine was a 96' and I did a 99' motor swap.

I know you can get a `99+ long block, keep the `99 motor and run the 98 components.(like the 2 front mounted coil packs instead of individual coil packs)...

The way you made it sound is that a `99 COMPLETE engine(coil packs and fuel system) will just switch right in..

The computers are WAY DIFFERENT!!!...I'm positive there is no way a 98 computer would work on a returnless/individual coil pack 99+ engine!!
