My check engine light has be on for awhile and now its blinking. My question is why would it start flashing after awhile?

A check engine light will flash when a hard misfire is detected or when the air fuel ratio is too rich.Basically, the check engine light flashes to let the driver know that the cat is bieng damaged. Any over rich condition will cause a large amount of raw fuel to go down the exhaugst and destroy the cats.

why would you just drive around with the check engine light on? If your car tells you its fucking up...you may want to see what the problem is. [Roll Eyes] . I think autozone does free scanning

One word procrastination. Its cool though right now I have time to fix it and I have been meaning to do a few things that I have been lagging on. Guess its time to go and buy more shit and fix the problem.
Thanks for the info cobraracer.

Autozone stopped the free check program in December. I have an OBD II scanner if you want ot come by and scan your car. I live in San Jose and buy me Mr. Chau's or something if you feel you have to pay to use the tool (It only takes 5 minutes to scan)

well last time I pulled the codes it said both banks were running rich. I am going to get my injectors, pump, and MAF. Then go from there and see if anything changes.
So whats are some things to look into if I am running rich?
combo is 97 gt s-trim with a bbk h pipe other then that the car is stock.
