Ok here is the scoop....my Ex-Girlfriend gave me her 1986 GT Conv.....its in really good shape.

It just wont start....easy fix allready found the problem.

One other problem it has is that it just shuts off every once in a while. Like the TFI problem. I have replaced the TFI and Coil for her but it still does it. If you let it sit for a while and cool down it will start right up. What other possiblities could it be?

Also how hard is it to convert to manual? Also how hard to convert to MAF. I may just stick a carbed 351W, leave the wiring harness for the computer and swap in a stock motor every 2 years. Well let me know.

When the car dies after it's warmed up, check to see if you're losing spark or fuel.
If you're not getting spark and you say you swapped out the TFI module and coil, check to see if you're losing your PIP signal. This is the electronics in the distributor.
If you're not getting fuel, well that's easy enough.

Im pretty sure its spark....like 80% because after you crank it when it dies you start to smell gas.....

So should i just replace the dist? What else can i check?

Sounds like it could be a fuel pump problem. Have you checked the Shrader valve when you are having problems getting it to turn over?

Any codes from the EEC?

Erratic PIP signal will throw out a code.

I wouldnt recommend the MAF conversion, unless you plan on getting heads/cam....I did the MAF conversion on my '86GT and felt a huge loss in power and it was a pain in the ass to install...Its not that hard, I just kept getting engine codes because my connection to the "vehicle speed sensor" was bad(shity plastic connectors)...

Your money would be better spent on pullies, 3.73's, and an off-road pipe [Big Grin] ...and maybe some 1.7 roller rockers to make those heads breath a little better [Wink]
