I'm posting this for a friend who lives in the Bay Area.

He has a 99 Saleen Convertible, in Black with a factory Supercharger. It has 41K miles and has recently had some noise coming when applying the brakes.

The slotted disks are worn down to where you can only just see where the slots were. The brake pads have been replaced twice and the fluid topped up.

When the car warms up a bit, there is a fairly quiet noise when applying the brakes. You can only hear it when the Radio is switched off.

Its a hard noise to describe, but appears to be a soft clicking noise, maybe 3 or 4 times.

Any suggestions as to what to try ?

Check the ABS ring gears and sensors.

Could it be the wear indicator on the brake pad (metal clip) hitting the slots in the rotor?...

Any pedal vibrations?...

How fast are you going when you hear the noise?..

Speed wise, this is heard at really slow speeds, somewhere in the region of 5 to 10 mph. Typically when pulling up into a parking slot.

I'd be interested to hear of any more advice on this problem, particularly if anyone else has had a similar brake noise before.

To recap : New Brake Pads installed (twice), Rotors are worn but still in good shape (See Observation). Fluid topped up.

Observations : Orignal Fluid in system. Front Passenger Rotor has a slight lip to it.

If the rotors are worn to the point that the slots have disapeared, why not simply replace them? I'm not a fan of slotted or cross drilled rotors on street cars anyways... unless the owner admits they're just for show and not performance [Smile]
