My friend has a 97 Cobra convertible with very mild mods and a new, rattle/knock coming from his motor. The car still runs and drives fine, although he has since stopped driving it for obvious reasons. I believe it might be a valvetrain issue, an experienced motor tech thinks its a rod knock. I am new to the DOHC 4.6's. Where is a good shop to pinpoint the problem? If the motor needs to come out, who do you recommend to do a performance rebuild (in anticipation of a blower)? What is a ballpark estimate for parts and labor to do a tow in/drive out engine install on a Cobra, in addition to the assembled long block? Thanks for the info...

could be a rod knock
as far a how much cash its goin to cost
well it all depends who you take it to
and how you build the motor
im saying 3-4g's inlabor
the short block well that can go from like 4000-10000

you can save money by buying the short block and installing the motor your self
thats what I did with my ride

I had my machine shop build the motor and I did the install
