Thought you guys might like to see my race car that's been in the works for four years. It's being set up strictly for opentracking and should be finished within a couple weeks! I'm so anxious to drive the car!
Here are the specs:
351W
~10.5:1 compression
TFS Twisted Wedge heads, ported
Isky cam
Victor, Jr. intake
Holley 650 by The Carburetor Shop
Oil & power steering coolers
1 7/8" long-tube headers w/ 3.5" collectors
3" exhaust w/ Bassani X
Magnaflow mufflers
Griggs everything
Fuel Safe fuel cell
Non-power Cobra brakes (Alcons soon?)
Hawk Blue racing pads
17"x12" Complete Custom Wheels
335/35/17 BFG R1 all around
Maier Racing 3.25" flares all around
Full cage w/ removable Petty bar and boxed rear upper shock towers for rear coil-overs, tubing extending from front dash bar through firewall, to strut tower, to radiator support
Sparco Evo seat
Momo steering wheel
Harnesses
Aluminum flat-panel dash w/ Autometer Phantom gauges (to be installed Saturday!)
Big rear wing so those huge meats stay planted
Hmmmm....have I left anything out? Should be a fun car. It's been a long time in the making, and the light at the end of the tunnel is glaring me in the face!
When I get comfortable with the power and handling, I'll be giving rides to people. If you see me at the track, just ask!

This is why we drive stangs so a speed freak like Bill can make us feel warm. But 335/35/17's? What the $#@&? That's insane! Very cool ride-good luck.

Bill,
Are you going to Buttonwillow in March for the Green Flag event? You mentioned it's one of your favorite tracks. I haven't been there yet myself and looking forward to going. Maybe this time I'll get a ride in Rick's Z06. I wouldn't mind getting a few laps with you to show me the line if you take the car.

(I was trying to figure out how to resize the pictures, too. They're pretty small and don't show the details too well. Any ideas? ImageStation is hosting them.)
Thanks for the compliments, guys! Tranny is a T56 w/ Pro-5.0 shifter, and yes, it's at the shop, so if you'd like to check it out, feel free to stop by.
Steve, my goal is the Buttonwillow event in March. We should have the car up and running this weekend or early next week. The only thing left will be the hood, which is going to be a task. The K&N setup I'm using is pretty tall, and I'm fearing even a 3" cowl won't do the trick. I don't want to put some Pro-Stock scoop on it, either!!

Bill, would it be an eye sore to let the air cleaner stick up out of the hood? is it one of those with the filtering media on top as well? i think it might go well with some of the other bold styling effects.when you gonna paint. im assuming your gonna want it to be blue

did you do a hybrid rear axle or are you content with c clips at this point? i think i know the answer, but im working up a lather here and will need this info to complete
Posted by Bill/APEX Motorsports (Member # 636) on
:
I have a 1" carb spacer, and the filter is a K&N Flow Control setup. (I don't even see it listed on their website, so they may not even make it any more.) It's a drop-base design, but the filter itself is still 4.25" tall. It's not just a matter of using a shorter filter, either, because the upper and lower filter mounts are spaced for the 4.25" filter.
The rearend is an 8.8", but we converted it to 9" bearing ends and eliminated the c-clips. Differential is a Gold Track set half-tight, and it's got 3.55 gears.

Did the Carb Shop carb run good right out of the box for you? Mine still doesn't run right, I wasn't too happy with them. Thinking of having you guys do an EFI switch for me

I was looking at the pics of your car and I am not trying to bag on it,looks like you have alot of time into it.
But,is that wing there for a reason, does it serve any purpose?

Scott, we downsized the jets one size (on the engine dyno), but other than that it was perfect. I told them I needed it to flow well at the higher rpms (6,500rpm+) but that I also needed it to come out of slow corners hard. They seem to have accomplished that in terms of the AFR and power delivery.
As for the wing, yeah, I know it's a bit "over the top." I had originally purchased it to do some R&D for a Viper wing but ended up not using it on the Viper. So, it was just gathering dust. The car will weigh somewhere around 2,700lb., and downforce would be an issue without a wing. Without the flared fenders, it looked WAY goofier, but now that the fenders are mounted, it doesn't look as inappropriate. The wing's angle of attack is fully adjustable, and I'll probably set it at its least aggressive setting.
