Has anyone rebuilt there own T-5? I want to try it my self. How hard is it to do? And where would I find a full rebuild kit. Are there any special tools needed. Thanks in advance for any info.

I rebuilt a T-5 when I swapped a 5.0L into my TurboCoupe. Ripping it apart wasn't that difficult, but getting everything back together was a little more challenging. I used factory shop manuals(not Chiltons) and an exploded view that I got from I guy I know at Ford Parts Dept. D&D performance has rebuild kits at affordable prices. How much damage done should determine if it is worth rebuilding, or if you should bite the bullit and pick up a new unit or somehting stronger(World Class, Tremec 3550,TKO,T-56, etc.) Did it break from too much power or too much abuse? You can also pick up a used T-5 at a junkyard and take your chances for ~$500 or so. Rebuilds are possible but are a pain. The Ford tranny specialist was not able to answer questions I had, he said they just replace 'em if they break.

I'm attempting to rebuild my T5 also....My transmmsion broke 3rd gear...I have it out of the car but I have had no chance (BUSY) to open the case up and see what I need...

I'll be rebuilding my T5(or buying a new one [Big Grin] ) in the next few weeks...

Mine has'nt broken anything yet but it has the death howl. The tranny is really the only thing on a car that I have never done my self so I thought it could be a good learning experince.

I took apart my T5 today...Looks like I will be ordering a whole new gear set, oh well...I couldnt find my third gear, I think most of it came out when I drained the fluid. [Eek!] ....

I'm going to order my rebuild kit tommorow...I'll keep everyone posted...

The howl could just be the input shaft bearing...cheap... it's just a regular wheel bearing.
