What is the difference? I have had tons of different H-Pipes on many of my past stangs and over the last year I have had an X-Pipe on my 2 cars and I don't notice a difference in sound or anything else from past H-Pipes.

I am sure it would be better to compare if I had one on each car at the same time but.....

Just curious

One is in the shape of an 'H', & one is an 'X'.

That is about all I can figure out, LOL [Big Grin]

Below 3K rpm they function the same. Above 3K the 'H' does very little as the airflow is increased & simply passes by the crossover. The 'X', by design, still funtions above 3K.

X's are generally quieter as they are more efficient at equlaizing the pressure between 2 banks exhaust pulses.

i have a x pipe, and i think it sounds a lot different compared to people with h pipe and the same mufflers. the h pipe it sounds more aggressive, and my x pipe has a hollow sound.

I think the difference between an X pipe and H pipe is comprable to the difference between coke and pepsi.

Or AFR's vs TW's.....or stock cam vs 'non stock' cam. [Big Grin]
Just bustin' yer chops....

If you were to buy one or the other for performance reasons right now, which one would you guys get?

I have an X....

I've got an X-Pipe also. From my experience hearing both pipes, the H-pipe sound is more deep and throaty, whereas the X-pipe has a more high pitched whine(?) or something. It sounds a little more exotic than the H-Pipe. And then there are the performance differences shown in that link.

I want the X-Pipe just for the different sound. I'm not really a fan of the classic O/R h pipe and flows, too many cars(& trucks) sound like that.

Just bustin' yer chops....

AFR's vs TW's = YES [Smile]

E cam vs TFS stage 1 = YES [Smile]

___ Muffler vs ___ Muffler = YES [Smile]

___ pullies vs ____ pulles = YES [Smile]

Off topic: For what its worth, Bob Cosby's ported stock heads and cam 11.9 second 5.O ran about 2 mph slower with a comp 274HR compared to Ed's custom if I remember right. Not that we can compare Bob Cosby's results to anything we'll ever see run down Sac Raceway [Smile]

something off topic again. Your post number is 5555..........It was kinda cool. atleast I think?

Oh yeah I like H it sounds good and deep. But the performance differences are so minimal its all about personal preferance.

Well shit I guess I should have paid attention when one of the head R/D guys from FMF was telling me the differnce. I do recall him saying that with fourced induction you dont really need an X. BTW I have a brand new Dr. Gas x pipe for a 5.0 Thats never been used seeing they sent me the wrong one. If someone is intrested let me know.

What about the Pro Chamber? You get the best of both worlds with that bad boy and they even make a shortie Pro Chamber for long tubes.

MAC says split (one each side) manifolds or exhaust headers on any engine need to be balanced to each other. On a V-8 motor, exhaust pulses enter respective collectors at uneven intervals of 90-180-270 degrees of engine rotation. This process hampers the full benefit of any exhaust header or manifold system by the long intervals between exhaust pulses making balancing of exhaust mandatory for optimum power. Balance tubes between exhaust on opposite sides help transfer exhaust pulses from side to side to smooth out exhaust pulse and flow resulting in more power and economy. MAC's pro chamber goes even further than traditional H-pipes to produce more torque and horsepower by merging exhaust pulses in one area. Merging of all exhaust gasses creates higher temperatures which creates a boost in exhaust velocity plus lets exhaust gas see both outlets.

I had one and should have never sold it with my last Mustang. I am not sure if the HP numbers they put up are accurate or not but I do know that my pro chamber SOUNDED tight as fuck and FLOWED like the colorado river! HAHA My normal off road h pipe doesn't sound as good and sure doesn't help with HP (maybe like 5-10 at the most) although I would take it over and 4 cat h pipe! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Whoo Whooooo!] [burnout]
