How can you be sure your clutch is going out?

if i am right i think i will have to replace my clutch soon.

what is a good clutch to go with? i have heard mixed responses with king cobra.
Bill at Apex recommended a Kevlar unit that he carries.
all help will be appriciated.

thanks.

Apex wanted $400-450 i forgot the exact amount. It was $400 something for install too. $900 or so for both. is that high or about where it should be? I have never had a clutch put in and i don't know how difficult it is on my car.

Thats high!!!

I could put the clutch in for you for half that and I'm sure other members of cafords could too.

$400. for just a clutch is way too expensive..Get a SPEC stage 2 off Chuck(2000BlackGT)Dont forget that your '99 cobra clutch is 11." and any 4.6 from 96-98 is 10.5"..

Can you still chirp the tires or does the clutch just slip when you shift hard? [burnout]

...If your clutch chatters (the vibation you feel) when you engage it(releasing the pedal)you probably created "hot spots" on the flywheel(caused sometimes by driving the car too hard)..It makes the flywheel not smooth and it creates a chatter...A little chatter doesnt hurt a long as its not slipping.. ....
...It depends on how you drive it...Stock clutch is already out on try2paz's Saleen it only has around 18,000 miles...Most clutches should last at least 3years/30,000 miles..But like I said it all depends on how you drive your car... [burnout]

I just hit 63K on the car yesterday. so i think i will start searching for a clutch and then just find somewhere to put it in when it goes or gets worse. Am i going to run ito trouble by leaving the clutch in there too long, do i have a risk of breaking anything?

The worst that could happen is you MIGHT have to buy a new flwheel(you will have to resurface the flywheel when you install a new clutch anyway)...Take your time with your shifts(dont power shift)that way your transmission will be ok..... [patriot]
