Two years ago I had to take my car to a test-only station. Well you guessed it... I have to do this again! Two times back to back...whats up with this???? Does anyone know if the standards will be more relaxed this time compared to two years ago? I passed, but not by much last time. Also, if I change the county that my car is registered in right now, can I take it to a normal SMOG shop? This whole thing is pissing me off. Useless laws passed by useless lawmakers [Mad]

I had to do the same thing with my Jeep we had to take it to a certified test site. Gotta love the DMV's random selection.

I know what you're faced with. I don't really know how strict they are up there with smog but I live in LA and this year I had to smog at a "Test Only" center. I was truly scared because they have really started to crack down on crooked shops and under the table dealings related to smog. It got bad enough that I no longer could find someone to do it under the table. Fortunately Powertrain Dynamics in Huntington Beach burned me an awesome chip that made the car pass perfectly. The duration on my cam is not as much as an E cam but with a lot more lift (.544). It was lumpy before but with the chip it really smoothed it out. The smog guys just made sure I had all the smog equipment and that it passed through the tailpipes. Hope it goes well!

I think its BS that I have to do this two times in a row. Test only stations cost three times more than regular stations. Useless former druggie hippies sitting in an office making laws to crack down on "crooked" smog shops thinking "crooked" smog shops are the reason our air is so "bad".

I agree completely. How many hopped up Mustangs running around with off road H-pipes do you see? Very few. Now think of how many 80 something Toyota, Datsun, Buick, or Oldsmobile buckets running around belching black smoke and polluting our skies. A great deal of us don't use our Mustangs as daily drivers. A great deal of us still have the working cats. It's all about politics.

One of these days they'll learn it's not the amount of pollutants coming out of each car, it's the number of cars on the road that's the problem.

Sawson, my registration is due and I have to take my stang to a test-only station too....it sucks because it's way more expensive! WTF?! I'm still waiting for my new exhaust to arrive before I can take it to get smogged, though......I'm scared! [Eek!]

I went through a tough time with smog. I got caught at a car show with 6 smog violations. My car was "flagged"-meaning it had to be tested at a state referee. I got d#@^ed big time cause it took me some money and time to return the car to emission approved. I then had the car checked at the state referee. The tech said I got screwed by the inspector (which his job is to go to events and turn in your vin number to the dmv for having questionable items that dont meet ca rules). The tech was so cool and all he cared about on my ride was the tail end pollutions. I burned cleaner emmisions with Mac full lengths and hi flow converters than with stock manifolds and stock h pipe. Go figure.

I found a guy at Greenslip in Santa Clara to be really cool (test only station). Much better than the smog-techs who refused to even test my car once I popped the hood.

see some of my previous posts a few months back for my tribulations, [Mad]
