Computers almost never go bad. They're built like rocks. Chances are you had a chip plugged in when you pulled the codes and got a check-sum error because of the chip.

so should the shop take the chip off and rescan?

No, just ignore that code and annalyze the other codes the computer spit out.

did it start doing this right when your chip was installed? We had a problem wit our chip we didn't clean the contacts good enough and the car didn't idle good or drive good.

no it ran fine when i got the chip, however now you mention it i have taken off the chip a couple months ago and put it back on i left that kick panel off maybe bad connection it sure is a pain to take the computer out ill know more from the shop its at now in a couple hours he removed the chip and is testing it again

i had the same problem with a previous mustang. i would be sitting at a light and the rpm would go straight to 3 grand for no reason. it did it sporatically and was very aggrivating. i scanned at a bunch of different places and got no definative answer. i replaced (all upgrades mind you)...the tb, tps, iac, egr, mass air checked for vacuum leaks, etc. and they solved nothing, i replaced the computer, and it solved everything. i replaced that last when i should have changed that first but i guess hindsight is always 20/20.
