i was going to swap a flexalite fan for my stock fan. i was just wondering if it will affect my car any? will i run much cooler and gain any hp.

Noticed a big difference at high rpm. One draw back though. When in traffic and I hit the A/C it gets up in temp more than the clutch fan. But for regular around town driving not much difference. Saving for two electric fans for the best cooling control. Hope it helps you.

I'd save your money for an electric fan.

Why do you want a new fan? Are you experiencing cooling problems? or are you looking for more horse power?

well one the fan was only $40. second i heard it will reduce weight and and add a few HP.

Its advertised as giving more HP and for cooling as well, but I've been told by someone knowledgeable that it actually robs a hp or two, but does help cooling. He didn't explain why exactly, but this is my thinking.
The purpose of the fan is blow air over your radiator. If the aftermarket fan is catching more air than the stock one it must be harder to spin it since there will be more air resistance, and therefore robbing hp. I was given a brand new flex-a-lite fan as well, but didn't install it for this reason. Just trying to help. If you do put it in, let us know how it goes.

i have a flew fan and it works awsome but those mothers are sharp as hell man i had 7 cuts on my hand after puting that shit on. i didnt feel any hp gain so i dont know, cant really tell u if it made it cool cause i put a 3 core in while i was doing the fan and man that 3 core made the biggest difference in the world.

I have the flex fan as well and I didnt notice in hp loss at all. If anything I gained hp up top because as your rpms increase the blades flatten out which creates less resistance, thats what the clutch is also for on the stock fan so that when you reach higher speeds you dont need the fan spinning because air is flowing through your radiator already at good speeed.

I would reccomend you getting it they are cheap and work good. Careful installing it though they are real sharp and will cut you.

Actually at low speeds the fan is designed to pull air through your radiator and at higher speeds it does nothing.

Myne isnt loud at all and if it does rob horsepower I can't feel it.

Simply understand how a clutch fan works should be enough to convince you that it offers LESS parasitic drag at high rpm, because it disengages.

I agree 100%
loud, robs HP, and is downright dangerous (I've seen accounts of those flex-fans going through hoods!)
constant rpm with the engine? not smart, IMHO. There's a reason the clutch was built in to OEM fans ya know [Big Grin]

I'd say get an electric fan if you do anything, or if you stay clutch fan get a police unit, supposedly the best cooling clutch fan available.

If electric, the Lincoln Mark VIII or an SN-95 take-off from a junkyard are still probably the best deals going.
www.houstonperformance.com still sells the lincoln fans...

I would put in an electric fan also, for just a little more then price of a new flex fan you can get a lincoln fan from a junk yard.

All I know is my electric Flex-a-lite fan is great. The best part about it is that I can have it on when the car is off... Hence cooling while sitting in the lanes at Sac or sears. Anyway, I think it is all personal opinion. I like mine.
